The reality

Acquisition editors have incredible instincts. The tools haven't caught up.

You know exactly what you want to publish. But you're still managing submissions through email threads, spreadsheets, and sticky notes. Manuscripts fall through cracks. Collaboration with colleagues is clunky. Finding that one submission from six months ago? Good luck. Storywise gives your editorial instinct the infrastructure it deserves.

How it works

Three steps. That's it.

1

Set your taste profile

Tell us what you publish. Genres, themes, keywords, style preferences — as broad or specific as you like. This is your wishlist, and everything flows from it.

2

Connect your submissions

Link your inbox or forward manuscripts to your dashboard. Every submission gets an instant report card — summary, comp titles, author info, and a taste match score.

3

Focus on what fits

Your dashboard surfaces the manuscripts that match your taste profile first. Spend your time on the submissions that matter — not wading through everything to find them.

Platform

Everything an acquisitions team actually needs

Core differentiator

Taste Matching

Set your preferences and Storywise prioritises manuscripts that fit exactly what you're looking for. Your taste profile powers everything.

ETHICAL

Ethical AI Workspace

A private, ethical place to read and assess manuscripts with AI. Nothing you upload trains a model or leaves your control. The way unpublished work should be handled.

Built in

AI Detection

Every submission gets checked for AI-generated writing, so you know it's human work before you spend time on it. One less thing to second-guess.

Submission Report Cards

Every manuscript gets a detailed, relevant breakdown — summary, themes, writing style, and author background. All the context you need to decide fast.

Accurate Comp Titles

Current, relevant comparative titles generated for every submission. No more guessing what shelf a book belongs on.

Discovery

Mine past submissions and your backlist for new publishing opportunities. Resurface manuscripts that deserve a second look.

Workflow Management

Assign, filter, sort, and respond to authors — all from one dashboard. Collaborate with your team without email chains.

The Storywise Network

Access a growing network of manuscripts from authors matched to your wishlist. Discover talent you'd never find through traditional channels.

Critiques

Every manuscript gets a clear, honest assessment — strengths, weak spots, and where the writing needs work. A considered second read, ready before you start.

Privacy by design

A walled garden, built for publishing.

Drop an unpublished manuscript into ChatGPT and you've lost control of it. Storywise is the opposite.

Everything you upload stays inside the walls. It isn't shared, it isn't sold, and it doesn't get fed into anyone's public AI. The work stays the author's, and stays yours to assess.

This isn't a general tool with publishing bolted on. It was built for manuscripts and submissions from the ground up, on the assumption that the thing you're uploading is precious and unpublished.

About us

Why we built Storywise

Storywise began with two friends on opposite sides of the same broken process — and the conviction that it could work better for everyone.

The author

During the COVID lockdowns, Jeremy — an entrepreneur and sci-fi enthusiast — wrote his first novel, The Ghosting Time. Then came the months of submissions to agents and publishers, and the silence and rejection that meet most new authors.

The publisher

Gavin, a publishing professional, watched the frustration build — and recognised it. He'd seen it from the inside for years: manuscripts with real potential left unread, lost to limited resources and sheer volume. So the two built the tool they both wished existed.

FAQ

Questions we hear a lot

What does Storywise actually do? +

Storywise is a submissions management platform for publishers and agents. You connect your submissions inbox, set up your taste profile (genres, themes, keywords, anything you're looking for), and we give you a dashboard where every manuscript comes with a report card: summary, comp titles, author info, taste match score, and more. Think of it as moving from your inbox to an actual workflow built for acquisitions.

Does Storywise decide which books are good or bad? +

No. Never. We believe editors and publishers are more than capable of deciding which books are worth publishing. We don't score quality or make editorial judgments. Our job is to match submissions to your taste profile and give you the context to make faster, more confident decisions. The editorial call is always yours.

What is Taste Matching? +

Taste Matching is our core technology. You build a profile using genres, keywords, themes, character types, style preferences, whatever matters to you. Storywise then compares every incoming submission against that profile and prioritises the ones that fit. It's fully configurable and gets sharper the more you use it.

Are manuscripts secure? Who can see them? +

Manuscripts are securely stored and only accessible to Storywise and the specific publisher reviewing them. We use industry-standard encryption and strict access controls. Both authors and publishers can request deletion at any time. The creative work remains the property of the author. Always.

Do you train AI on our manuscripts? +

No. We do not use manuscripts to train generative AI models or large language models. We analyse manuscripts to match them against your preferences and to generate report cards. That's it. Your authors' intellectual property stays protected.

How does Storywise check for AI? +

We do more than hand you a percentage. Storywise flags the likely parts of the writing process where AI shows up, from light polishing to a machine shaping voice or plot, and shows it in plain bands rather than one vague score, plus clear suggested next steps for you or your team. You decide what to allow, question, or escalate. We help guide you there.

How does it work with our existing submissions process? +

You can connect your submissions inbox directly or simply forward manuscripts to your Storywise dashboard. Most publishers are up and running within a day. There's no need to overhaul your existing process. Storywise sits on top of it and makes it better.

Do you work with agented submissions? +

Yes. Storywise handles agented submissions: when a manuscript comes in from an agent, the agent and agency show right on the record, so agented work is easy to spot and prioritise.

What's the Storywise Network? +

The Storywise Network is a growing community of authors who've listed their manuscripts for discovery. As a publisher, you get access to manuscripts matched to your wishlist, authors you might never have found through traditional querying channels. It's an additional discovery layer on top of your regular submissions.

Is there a risk of plagiarism? +

Virtually none. Manuscripts are only accessible to Storywise and the designated publisher. We maintain strict data protection protocols and restricted access at every level. No unauthorised party can view manuscript content.

How much does it cost? +

Pricing is flexible depending on your team size and volume. Best to book a demo and we'll walk you through the options. No pressure, no payment info required.

Who's behind Storywise? +

We're a team of publishing people and technologists. Our CEO Gavin Marcus spent a decade in book publishing and distribution. Our CPO Jeremy Esekow is a behavioural psychologist and author. Our CTO Amit Smoller has deep experience building SaaS platforms. We built Storywise because we lived the problem.

Built by publishers, for publishing.

We've spent a decade in the trenches of manuscript evaluation and book distribution. Storywise exists because we built the tool we wished we'd had.
